Our Journey Through Marriage Challenges
Hello, my name is Meru, and together with my husband, Brian, we have journeyed through a path of love, loss, and profound restoration. Our story is not just about the trials we faced; it’s about the incredible ways in which God’s grace has manifested in our lives, bringing us back together against all odds.
Before the Pandemic: A Near Divorce
Before the Covid pandemic struck, I left my husband, teetering on the brink of divorce. Yet, in that critical moment, something miraculous happened—God intervened. I never filed for divorce because a powerful pull drew me back home. Our reunion blessed us with a child we aptly named Miracle. But our story did not smooth out immediately. Despite our new beginning and the joy of a new baby, Brian walked out, leaving me in a whirlwind of uncertainty.
Divine Assurance and Restoration
The day he left, I received a divine assurance from God, “I finish what I start, stand by, your marriage is going to be restored!” Holding onto the promise was a battle—a real test of flesh versus spirit. There were moments I wanted to end it all and file for divorce myself. Yet, each time I was close to giving up, God gently reminded me of grace and forgiveness.
The Turning Point
My journey of “standing” for our marriage was marked by moments of defiance against God’s guidance. Yet, as I started to truly listen and obey, showing grace and forgiveness to my husband, I saw slow changes in him. It was clear that God’s love was working through me, softening his heart, and gradually steering us back towards each other.
Seeking Support
Support was crucial during this time. I surrounded myself with people who spoke life into my struggles. I leaned heavily on scriptures and sought guidance from spiritual mentors. Investing in the restoration of my family was a priority, regardless of the cost.
A Joyful Reunion
My husband returned home on his birthday, September 15th, a day I associate with the parable of the Lost Son from Luke chapter 15. His return was gradual, starting with conversations, then intimacy, and eventually deep discussions on parenting, finances, and our personal challenges. We committed to weekly marriage classes at church to support our healing process. As a symbol of our renewed commitment, we exchanged new wedding rings.
Lessons Learned
Through this journey, I learned the true meaning of dying to self and living by the Spirit. Yes, there were days filled with emotional turmoil, when doubts plagued my mind, making me question my sanity and my faith. But each time, I chose to stand firm, trust in God’s promises, and shut down the lies aimed at undermining our marriage.
A New Beginning
And now, as a beautiful affirmation of God’s promises, Brian and I are thrilled to announce that we are expecting another child—a restoration baby! Truly, God’s works are wonderful, and His timing is perfect. Isn’t God amazing?
Encouragement for Others
For those struggling in their marriages, remain steadfast and trust in God. He is not just the God of second chances; He is the God of restoration and renewal.
Philippians 1:6 - "being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus"
